To Leap
When you become afraid to leap
you no more wish to reach the sky
your dreams beneath a rock you sweep
when you become afraid to leap
they only surface when you sleep
and you awake with tear in eye
when you become afraid to leap
you no more wish to reach the sky.
This triolet is written for Grace's dVerse Poetics prompt. We are writing to one of Joel Robison's photos.
The quote is a great caption for this photo. I agree that when we are overwhelmed by fear, all wild dreams or desires vanish. I love the line about awaking with 'tear in eye' after we dream of what we could have achieved, if only. The repetitions of the triolet work particularly well with the ideas you poem conveys.
ReplyDeleteThis form works well for this fear, in the cycle of days it repeats and repeats ...
ReplyDeleteI'm not afraid to leap...merely afraid of falling. as for dreams, I fear there's only so much pickie dust in the world. a lovely and rather astute write. it works well with the image.
ReplyDeleteFear is like closed portals..a very sad space...a wonderful triolet Mary..
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this poem - and the form. Love the rhyme scheme. Cool.
ReplyDeleteSo true... how can we ever catch the moments if we're afraid to leap.. great triolet Mary.. BTW - there's something wrong, and I cannot see the picture.
ReplyDeleteFixed it, Bjorn. Odd though, as it had originally WORKED...but today, for some reason it did not; so I had to totally redo. Sigh!
DeleteLoved this poem .... and the theme as well .... fear brings stagnation .... the most dreadful of all ...
ReplyDeleteand you wont reach the sky...because fear has held you earthbound....life is a series of leaps you know...without being willing to risk, we will miss much in life...
ReplyDeleteSo much truth here...if we live life afraid to leap, then we will be relegated to the mundane and we will miss out on all of our dreams...
ReplyDeleteHave to take a leap or two, although maybe with my body it just be a big step haha
ReplyDeleteI love the triolet form and message Mary ~ When we are afraid to leap, we don't want to reach for sky ~ Thanks for playing along, smiles ~
ReplyDeleteI greatly enjoyed your triolet. The poem and photo suit very well.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!

Hi Mary..!!!!!!
Missed you...G
great write and so true; life is about the leaps, risks... without them, we're just existing, not living.
ReplyDeleteyes! fear is the source of all chaos..and reality is the tea
ReplyDeleteof a relaxing English afternoon..and a summertime breeze...
Wonderful write, Mary.
ReplyDeletea great triolet, Mary! Works wonderfully with the photograph you chose.
ReplyDeleteWell done Mary, life is all about hope isn't it, when that disappears what is left?
ReplyDeleteI like how you connected this to the picture. Your poem goes with it perfectly. And yes, it is sad when we become too afraid to take chances, or to go into something unknown.
ReplyDeleteFear certainly keeps one grounded. I guess that's why I admire those who soar.
ReplyDeleteMary, I really enjoyed this poem. I hope we always have the desire to take the leap as that is what makes our dreams fly.
ReplyDeleteThis one is hitting home for me...at a crossroads and there is always a leap involved.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this! :)
It is always with a feeling of regret when one gives up mid-stream. Wonderful write Grace!
ReplyDeleteHank
This one hits home for me too: a great interpretation of the picture!
ReplyDeletePerfect synergy... a lovely poem to read.
ReplyDeleteEven being air borne for a few moments is better than not.
ReplyDeleteyup true.....well said....
ReplyDelete"your dreams beneath a rock you sweep"-- So sad when you give up on your dreams. Sensitive triolet, Mary.
ReplyDeleteexcellent!! Especially the waking with a tear...ouch.
ReplyDeletebeautiful Mary..you have captured it perfect..thanks:)
ReplyDeleteWonderful triolet, a perfect capture of the picture.
ReplyDeleteGreat use of picture and words. I empathized with fear of taking the leap. Really know when to hold back in the end. No desires for a substitute of a dream. Maybe that is not really giving up but trying to come to terms with a great loss.
