It Has Been a While

It has been a while since I have written a poem
and you might ask me if I missed it
and the answer is not so much because
right now democracy needs so much work
more work than that of writing a poem

We cannot sit back and let democracy die
be complacent or throw up our hands
we cannot be lulled by how futile it feels
we must keep jaws firm and arms crossed
and not give up no never give up ever

It has been a while since I have written a poem
there are so many other things to do.

(I had hip replacement surgery on May 1,  so
haven't been around a while. I am recuperating
well, but have 'hip precautions' to follow for 
3 months.  I think I am back...now!)
