Only Once

Diamond Head - Honolulu - Oahu - Hawaii

Only Once

I climbed Diamond Head once
walked a few hours to the top
didn't think it would be so hard
but it was a rough trail, very hot
exhausting to keep on walking.

Some things I will only do once
am glad to have done them
but glad to not do them again
the way I feel about Diamond Head
a healthy respect for what I did once.

Perhaps we  all have these things
that we did once and once only
so I am wondering what about you
what did you do once and happily so
but know you will never do again?

Written for Poets United Poetry PantryWhen you comment, rather
than commenting on my poem, it would be interesting to hear what YOU
have only done once and know you will not do again.

Spring

Peach Trees in Blossom - Van Gogh (public domain)

Spring

Spring comes eventually everywhere
           and in its own way
here it arrives with wind and hail
cheerless skies and unrequited dreams
of sun that resides somewhere (where?)

without the warmth with winter coats and mittens
fireplace still blazing chill from the air
it doesn't seem possible as I shiver
that it is mid-April with weather like this

but nonetheless spring comes as it will
on its own chosen day and cold or not
we know the world will green and warm
sometimes one just has to trust.

Spring seems to be arriving late this year.  We have high winds, rain, sleet. Most unpleasant.

Hoping the REAL spring will arrive sometime soon.

Spring This Year

Spring This Year

It is April according to the calendar
and I should be feeling hope
at the approach of summer ahead

but even though the skies are blue
and I can feel a slight spring breeze
I fear it will be different this year

without my usual optimism
having lost my hopeful tone
my inner landscape colored grey.
