Listen

Listen

Listen to the world around you
it speaks in the gentle voices
of the rolling waves or the wind
as it rustles through the leaves
or in the howl of the lone coyote

Reflect on  the world around you
there are lessons to be learned
through  nature with its balance
of light and dark, life and death
cycles that repeat again and again.

Learn from the world around you
know that within your humanity
there is no perfection but if
you live in harmony with nature's voices
you too can become part of the plan.

Know that the world goes on
no matter what man does to disrupt
the sun rises and the sun sets
the seasons change, the rivers flow
and that you too have your place

Crossroads

Crossroads

I stand immobile on the crossroads, as
traffic comes at me from all directions.
There is no escape from being crushed
from one direction or another.
Something will hit me, get me,
it is just a matter of time.
I am sad, very sad, as I bide my time
but yet it is almost peaceful here
calm before inevitable storm
and there is sleep that gives respite
when it happens as it should
and it doesn't always happen.
There are still prayers that
the worst case scenario will
not happen, that God does listen.
I have to keep the faith.

For Poetry Pantry.

I actually wrote this poem back in 2010 - a lifetime ago, it seems.  It was relevant then, for another reason, and it is relevant for me yet today.  I would guess in some more years this poem will still be relevant for me.  I had forgotten about this poem.  I am glad that I rediscovered it.

My Little Poem

My Little Poem

My little poem
rests deep inside
in a deep corner
of my soul

too much a risk
to set it free
into a world
where evil resides

my little poem
will stay hidden
until once again
comes the right time

or perhaps
it will wither
shrivel and die
with passing of time.

This is for Poets United Poetry Pantry.
Looking for inspiration today I read Sumana's poem  My Little Poem.  The title
inspired me.

Grass Still Grows

An area of newly sodded grass

Grass Still Grows

The grass still grows
 trees take root
birds warble
and dreams take hold.

The wind still whistles
butterflies dance
coyotes howl
and spirits soar.

The waterfall still tumbles
penguins dive
monkeys climb
and hearts sing.

And life still continues
overcomes disregard
nature perseveres
despite human misdeed.

I wrote this poem LAST August.  It seems very relevant today.  Perhaps even more relevant than it was last year.  The sod is mine.  What had been a dead area is now alive. I must nurture it though while it takes root in the soil below.  We must nurture the good.  Nature does persevere.  So must we.
