Resistance
Resistance begins with a quiet mind
that rejects the media’s portrayals,
what they call truth (and isn’t),
simply refusing their story.
Resistance holds strong against despair,
enduring the flood of horrors
heard about each day,
with teeth clenched, arms folded.
Resistance pushes back against hopelessness,
eyes fixed on a flickering flame of hope.
It stands firm against giving up,
though some days make that hard.
Resistance looks toward an ending not yet visible,
noticing hairline cracks in the regime,
hoping the foundation will give way
while praying for a new dawn.

That is such a good point, Mary, that we have to use critical thinking and check whether what media is saying is true or not. There is so much misinformation out there, and so many lies. I resonate with every line of this poem, and especially love the closing stanza. May those cracks widen till things crumble.
ReplyDeleteIt's so wonderful to see how Resistance leads to that flicker of hope and prayer for a new dawn while becoming stronger enduring the worst. So very well put, Mary.
ReplyDelete"Resistance pushes back against hopelessness . . . " Your poem is the best description of personal resistance and hope I have read. Standing together multiplies the strength and hope of resistance.

ReplyDeleteMary, resistance indeed starts with a quiet mind so true. In this quiet state we are able to find hope in the hopelessness of our situation.
ReplyDeleteYou have defined what is happening perfectly. I love your last stanza.
