Colorless
There is no color to express
the sadness of missing
gray is not gray enough
black is not black enough
and words cannot express
the depth of feeling
of the missing
especially if one has
never deeply
missed before.

Ah, yes ... to miss someone and have nothing to compare it to can suck the colors away.
ReplyDeleteif there is one that has never truly deeply missed
ReplyDeletei would say they have not lived...but to miss someone
yes, there is really no color to capture that feeling.
..it's true...to be invisible...or the color of water...lacking so much tanglible..touching poem, Mary
ReplyDeleteloss compels us to have a colorless existence yet there are fond memories to let us breathe...that yearning is palpable in the lines...
ReplyDeleteHeart touching... there is no colour to define the sadness of losing some one. :-)
ReplyDelete-HA
So very true. The longing comes through your words...
ReplyDeletegood - sometimes we miss the colors because are afraid to see them.
ReplyDelete...how true is that, Mary.... short but it managed to express more... being an emotional person by nature i can relate to the sentiments you expressed here... thanks for giving us 'so much'... smiles...
ReplyDeleteoh if we miss someone it surely can suck out all the color of our lives.. so well expressed mary
ReplyDeleteso filled with sadness but some times we need sadness to relish happiness.
ReplyDeleteThe depth of feeling - i really like this, so often I express feelings with colour, but this feeling that lack of colour can express emotions is really powerful. This is quite exceptional and really makes me think about how i view life.
ReplyDeleteHow intense! Loved it :)
ReplyDeleteHow true that sometimes words fail us, especially when we try to express our deepest feelings. As for the color of the missing its very special hue is indeed very dark. You have expressed a lot within a few very profound lines!
ReplyDeleteThe depth of missing so beautifully expressed here Mary - and it made me quite emotional. Thank you for giving us the words we often have difficulty finding.
ReplyDeleteAnna
Too true, I'm right there with you with that!
ReplyDeleteso true, there is no color to express, so few words to say how we miss.

No color to express that deep sadness nor grief Mary ~ Lovely share ~
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend ~
Beautifully written Mary. There is no color for grief.
ReplyDeletethere is no color for grief...the only color is the memories left behind...
ReplyDeleteFunny, as I always call November, Grey November...it's a truly colorless month here. The absence would be so much easier to bear if we had no knowledge of the vivid liveliness of color. I loved this, Mary. It echoes my feelings of the moment brilliantly.
ReplyDeleteSo many ways to describe grief and missing... colorless is perfect. Absence of a perfect image to describe it. Well penned, Mary.
ReplyDeleteMissing is not grand at any land, but one who has never missed before, unless a kid, then they are a big hermit lol
ReplyDeleteYes. Missing someone deeply is a very sad shade of grey. Good thought here Mary.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully expressed Mary…and who among us has not felt a sense of deep missing at some point in our lives… maybe many?

I sense a lot of truth in your words, Mary. Some things go beyond colour.
ReplyDeletetoo true, Mary - i love autumn but there's a colorlessness about it too... for reasons you specify
ReplyDeleteYou express loss so well Mary--really well done
ReplyDeleteGray is DEFINITELY the color of missing, kiddo. Been there, done that and somewhere I even have a gray t-shirt. Smiles.
ReplyDeleteA very deep reflection! This poem have been a remedy for me :)
ReplyDeleteSo sad...yet So true...
ReplyDeleteWhen my world is colorless, it's usually a sign of depression, or the disappointment or mourning of a loss.
ReplyDeleteYour green, green, unrelentingly green trees, which should have given way to "true colors" right now, had a perfect message. I'm in the greys... Lovely work. Amy
Awww - I wish I could reach out and give you a hug Mary.
ReplyDeleteMary, this really captures my imagination--and I think it is very clever, colorless could mean emptiness/a void also. I hope that this is a creative undertaking and not how you are feeling right now--virtual hugs-just because
ReplyDeleteYou've explained the unexplainable! well done.
ReplyDeleteWell done, some emotions are so deep that they are colourless... beautifully and simply expressed!
ReplyDeleteClearly true - in fact no color is wanted, no tv, no gardens in bloom, no sunny skies - at least for a while. Nevertheless wants aren't gets when you are in grief.
ReplyDeleteSo true. Curl up with your 3 little ones and try and let the sadness sort of seep out of you into the ground. Sending a hug from St Louis.
ReplyDeleteHow poignant-- I've never thought of the realtionship to color in this way. Such tender writing, Mary ~peace, Jason
ReplyDeleteMary - such a moving poem - 'gray is not gray enough
ReplyDeleteblack is not black enough' - so true K
You have described the feeling of emptiness and depression...lacking in anything that would lift one up! Well done!
ReplyDeleteSo very true. Well done, Mary.
ReplyDeleteYou expressed it beautifully!
ReplyDeleteBravo Mary, so true~
ReplyDeleteI remember that grayness, how it looked, felt (absolutely flat), and even tasted in the back of the throat. And you are absolutely correct.

ReplyDeleteEmptiness does feel grey and makes for very long days...
