The Journey
Her eyes on the mountaintops
she gathers strength from the moon
as she flows toward the ocean
swept along by the current
on the river of love.
Undeterred by crash and splash
she knows she will break free
into a thousand shooting stars
a stream of strength exploding
a waterfall of dreams.
This is written to the words in Ed's wordlist over at Real Toads. Of the 21 words he listed, I used 13. The words I used are italicized.
I am impressed that you have used 13 words, Mary! I love the feelings of determination and strength we can feel in your poem. I also like the imagery, especially 'the river of love' and the 'waterfall of dreams'.
ReplyDeleteYou put ed's words to good use in this romantic poem, Mary.
ReplyDeletei love how you use break free into a thousand shooting stars. that kind of imagery make me envious! in a good way of course:) lovely...
ReplyDeleteMary, there is so much water imagery, used to great effect. I realized I had not done my Toad duty for the day!! Nicely written, Mary. Amy
ReplyDeleteYou turned the list into a marvelous hope.
ReplyDeletethe breaking free into a 1000 shooting stars...def like that part....and the feel of hope in this as well...
ReplyDeleteThe first stanza uplifted me. The second stanza felt like breaking as well as breaking free.
ReplyDeleteMary, this poem is beautiful and, in the final stanza, it actually lifts off and takes flight! Love it!

:)
Quite a challenge in having to choose from that many words. You've accomplished it brilliantly. Wonderful write Mary!
ReplyDeleteHank
Beautiful images in response to the challenge.
ReplyDeleteQuite the romantic I think you are! River of love … for some reason I had "Huey Lewis & the News" "Power of love" in my mind after I read that line - kind of gave your poem a "rock n roll" vibe after that :)

Like so many others, I was captivated by your "thousand shooting stars" here, Mary. A poem full of love but not at all mushy.
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of all three dogs. Somewhere in my head, Tulip is always the tiny puppy, but not in reality, I see.
K
fluid (no pun intended!), Mary, swept me along ~
ReplyDeleteI love, "a waterfall of dreams"
ReplyDeleteBluetiful!
'Alone is not lonely' is my favourite bit. I was talking with my youngest about this, about what introverts need, which is being alone but not lonely, also known as 'recovering from being around my extrovert brother.'
ReplyDeleteOops I thought I had commented on this but apparently not. Several very striking images here--the stars and the waterfall, esp. Good work.
ReplyDelete...in this life... some people are meant to cross the same journey. you have... a beautiful read Mary.... smiles... i enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteLove where you took this, Mary.
